As the name already gives away and as mentioned above, double cleansing consists of two cleansing steps. The oil cleansing step helps melting away your make-up, breaking down your sun screen and sebum. Even if you don’t wear make-up, you should consider the oil cleansing as each and everyones skin produces sebum. Your skin is oily and you are afraid of using an oil cleanser? Rest assured that having oily skin is actually a good reason to begin using oil cleansers. Cleansing oils are not only the most gentle way to get rid of all that gunk; using them frequently can help you balance your sebum production. Dry skin types, this oil cleansing thingie concerns you as well, as you are especially prone to fine lines caused by dryness – something a cleansing oil can definitely help you get rid of.
An oil cleanser helps you melt away a lot of gunk a water-based cleanser might have difficulties with. But: there is still sweat and debris on the surface. That’s when Skin-City needs its second hero – a water-based cleanser. You know that super squeaky clean feeling on your face and when your skin feels tight… yeah that… that’s not what you should look for when selecting a cleanser, as it may strip your skin from its oil and affect its balance. Try low pH-cleansers instead – they are super gentle and slightly acidic, similar to our skin, which is why they wont cause dryness.
So there you have it. I asked our beauty editors to tell us their current double-cleansing favourites. I’m saying ‘current’ as they continuously test countless products on the market, so their preferences can obviously change fast. As they are many oil- and water-based cleansers that are suitable for all skin types, the combination possibilities are endless. To give you a concrete example: The beauty blogger Nissi Mendes swears by the double cleansing duo consisting of KLAIRS Gentle Cleansing Oil and the ACSEN Oil-Cut Cleanser for her sensitive and acne-prone skin.
Clean it zero! Cleansing balm is the perfect start for your double cleanse. Papaya and Raspberry Leaf Extracts gently exfoliate your skin for a radiant complexion. Simply apply a small amount of the cleansing balm by massaging it on dry skin and start adding water while rinsing off. The balm consistency will turn milky and runny and literally melt your make-up away. The Lotus Micro Cleansing Foam by MAMONDE has been especially developed to tackle the micro pollution and will help you get rid of any remaining sweat and dirt.
Sensitive skin needs pampering and gentle treatment. KLAIRS Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil removes the impurities with Black Bean, Sesame and Blackcurrant Seed Oil without irritating or overloading your skin. We highly advise sensitive skin types to keep an eye on the pH level of their cleanser, as high pH-level can trigger irritations. COSRX Low pH Cleanser has been especially developed for sensitive skin to help you restore the balance and cleanses with botanical ingredients such as Tea Tree Oil and Evening Primerose Extract.
Dry skin types, do your skin a favour and pick a low pH-(water-based) cleanser as well, as higher pH-level cleanser tend to strip your skin from its oils (and believe me, you don’t want those oils stripped). INNISFREE Olive Real Cleansing Oil has so much more to offer than just olives. Tangerine Peel, Orchid and Camellia extracts harvested from the Jeju island will leave your skin clean and nourished. Spoil yourself with popolis, Gelé Royale and honey extracts – your skin will thank you. Those are only a few of the J.ONE Gentle Jelly Cleanser star ingredients. The low-pH formula cleanser will pamper and softly cleanse your skin.
Am I the only one finding this skin type incredibly tricky to deal with? Some areas are dry, other are oily and there is a fine tolerance line that works with both parts. THE FACE SHOP Rice Light Cleansing Oil is the Coke Light of the cleansing oils (except that I don’t advise drinking this) – ultra light and effective. LANEIGEs cult product Multi Cleansing Foam contains cellulose micro-beads for a thorough cleanse and a gentle mechanical peeling effect while skin balancing green tea extracts and papaya enzymes maintain the equilibrium and peace within your oil and moisture level.
This skin type is so easy to mess up as many skin care products that target acne are overloaded with alcohol and other irritants. The thing is… even though your acne-prone skin has a weird way of expressing it – it loves and protects you, so give it some love back by using a gentle cleansing method. BANILA CO Clean it zero! Purity contains no alcohol, no parabens and no mineral oil which makes it a perfect option for acne-prone skin.
Can somebody please give Troiareuke an award for understanding that acne-prone skin is actually sensitive too and developing a whole skin care line for this matter? Their ACSEN Oil-Cut Cleansing is perfect for acne-prone skin and cleanses the skin gently with micro-mollecules and nourishing papaya extract and aloe vera juice. In fact… this cleanser can even be used as an oil-based cleanser by applying it on your dry skin and rinsing everything off.
By now you should have seen my name and noticed that I’m a guy. And even though I don’t wear make-up I wanted to write this post because ever since I started double cleansing, my skin has improved a lot. (Though I asked the girls to take care of the pictures as I'm rubbish at that as you might guess by the omnipresence of pink.)
My skin type: used to be very very very oily, acne-prone and sensitive. Yay, I won the shitty skin lottery.
Since I started double-cleansing, my skin became:
At the moment I am using the DR. ALTHEA Deeply Cleansing Balm Citrus&Honey which I like very much because it’s so gentle, it removes my sunscreen and contains vitamin C. (this one's not available in Switzerland yet. *feeling extra* haha). And yes, I admit it, I have a weak spot for the following words in skin care: pore & deep cleansing. On days when I don’t shave, I prefer using the COSRX Exfoliating Salicylic Acid Cleanser. I like the herbal scent and the immediate effect it delivers: clearer and smoother complexion. Another cleanser I enjoy using is the DR. ALTHEA Foaming Cleanser & O2 Bubble Mask... it's mild, doesn't dry my skin out and leaves it clean and clear.
What is your favourite cleansing-combo? Which cleansers are you currently using? Do you want to see more posts from me or should I get lost and leave it to the girls? :D
Take care and thanks for reading!

I am super happy to finally start this topic as it concerns many of us and I am sure pretty much everyone has once tried one or the other pore care product. So let’s get straight to the point: you want to know how to get rid of them? Keep reading to find out how.
Don’t you sometimes get the feeling, that something’s bubbling underneath your skin, just waiting to erupt all over your face, leaving you with ghastly pimples? Your skin feels tender and tight, hot to the touch and you just know that you’ll wake up tomorrow with a new friend called Mr. Zit on your face. Ugh, we’ve all been there, and we’ve all been desperate for a waterproof solution so that Mr. Zit doesn’t even try to make an appearance on your face.
Brrr… It’s cold outside and the first snowflakes already fell. Time for hot cocoa and a cozy sweater. But don’t forget about your skin! In the colder seasons your skin needs some extra tender love and care because who likes to be dried out by the cold everyday? Dry air and freezing temperatures take a toll on your skin. Luckily in summer, the bees have been working hard to produce sweet sweet honey and also propolis - the main ingredient in the product I’ll present to you in this review.
