There is a certain ingredient that always keeps popping up in the Korean (and recently in the Western) beauty industry: snail mucin. But what is it all about? What makes women all over the world smear snail goo all over their faces? After reading our post you will wonder why you haven’t been doing it yet.
Before we get to the ‘why’, let’s start with finding out what snail mucin actually is. As the name already gives away, snail mucin is the secretion produced by snails. Snails are gastropods and produce this sticky fluid for two reasons: The mucin serves as adhesive agent which helps them sticking to the surface and even defying gravity by keeping them on the surface while climbing upside down. Another thing that gets easier for snails thanks to the mucus is shifting. However, snails produce mucin even when they are not moving in order to protect themselves from bacteria, sharp objects, UV rays and injuries in general. The snail mucin serves as a lubricant and boosts the wound healing. So how does that snail mucin thingie get into the bottle? In order to harvest snail mucin, snails are being fed a clean diet and put on a slightly rough and electrified surface. This is when they start producing mucin to lubricate themselves. The fluid is then collected, purified and used for cosmetics. At GLOWRIOUS we only use snail mucin from the brands where we know the snails are not being hurt and where species-appropriate treatment is ensured.
Peppered with Collagen, Glycolic- and Hyaluronic Acid the snail mucin is also antimicrobial and rich in anti-oxidants. Just as it helps the snails increasing the wound healing it does the same to your skin by boosting the skin cell regeneration process and is a strong lubricant. Another reason why snail mucin is very popular and commonly used in anti-acne products is it’s beneficial effect on acne scars. So if you are dealing with acne marks you want to be gone, you might want to try this mild alternative to harsh ointments.

Have you ever thought of putting wine on your face? No? Me neither. The consistency makes it a bit difficult. I’d rather just drink it and complain to my girl friends about stupid boys and later have a guilt trip for no reason at all. I’m wandering off, I’m sorry.
Long time no glow talk. Recently, there has been a lot of talk about an ancient remedy which has been a steady ingredient in many K-Beauty products over the past years: Propolis. The ancient Greek citadel? No… Not Acropolis. Hydrating, soothing and a powerful weapon against acne and oily skin are only a few good things about Propolis. Keep on reading why Propolis is the employee of the month when it comes to many skin care ingredients. Let’s talk about honey, honey.
